BusinessObject is another interesting and challenging product to integrate with WebSphere Portal. I wanted to integrate BusinessObject reports in portal and analyzed few of the options available. One of the difficulty is the behaviour of portal and the limitations/challenges it imposes than any normal J2EE applications. Before we get into details, lets looks at what would be the common integration expectations and the integration options BusinessObjects provide.

Generally, the common integration expectations are

  • Should be able to pull list of report.
  • Should be able to view reports published in BusinessObject.
  • Should be able to pull annotations/note published for a report.
  • Re-use BusinessObject session.
  • Should be able to pull data for a report

BusinessObject provides various java SDK for integrating with it. I won't get into all the SDK's but the two SDK's which i have used are

  • BusinessObject Enterprise SDK
  • Web Services SDK
